DRAW! SKETCH! (a sketch for the cover of DRAW!)
This was my final sketch for the issue of Mike Manley's DRAW! Magazine that I was featured in, several years ago. While the drawing has its problems, most of which were beautifully fixed once BILL WRAY had painted it for publication, I still get a kick out of what I did here. Actually, there's a lot of good stuff going on, from the concept itself, on down to the drybrush technique I managed to pull off using a lousy, worn out Sharpie.

I've got that picture someplace. It's good that you can see some good in your own picture. Ther should come a time when the overly critical eye of the drawerist takes break and allows us some happiness with our choices.... note to self 'must like what I do'
all the best- Mick
i remember seeing this finished piece and staring at it cause it had so much fun cartoony-ness in it. its cool to see the rough. great work as usual
This is a really fun image. I never saw the finish, but I'm sure Bill did an amazing job on it. Great stuff. I can't believe that's a sharpie.
Peace,
Joe
I think I had the most fun with this I ever had painting a cartoon painting.
Neat!
I love this cover! About a year ago a couple of my co workers went to the comic shop during lunch break ( the one day I decided not to go), and they came back with every last copy of this issue of Draw that they had in stock. Super awesome.
The cover image turned out beautifully. You and Bill did such a fantastic job on it. Best issue of Draw! ever, for the interview and the step by step process.
It's a pretty complicated drawing.
---Ha Ha, I HAVE THIS AND MIKE CARLO DOESN'T... BUT WHAT I NEED IS A COPY OF THAT AMAZING ISSUE OF DEXTER...
---HAVEN'T COMMENTED HERE IN A WHILE, BUT I'M ALWAYS STOPPIN' BY...
That issue with featuring both you and Bill is the best one to date. I love this drawing and Bill's finished painting.
great drawings man
Great Work!
I was just reading that issue the other day.
